  • Hello Kristind. Welcome to WP! Great start on your website… and I really dig your owl logo.

Can you explain what you mean by custom header? I see you’ve already added your own custom header/logo image.

And there are a few different ways to add a “slideshow” to your page. Easiest way might be to use a plugin like this…

You’ll probably have more questions. Don’t hesitate to ask.

Oops, I should probably mention that the plugins are for your self-hosted site.

For a WP.com site take a look at the gallery options…

    Hey!

Thanks so much for responding. Yeah, I wasn’t sure if that was the way to do it if I also wanted to have a show of images below. Once I have the plugin, how do I incorporate it onto the main page? As far as my logo, it looks pixilated. Is there a way to make it smaller I guess? It is already below the pixel limit in my photoshop.

I’m trying to achieve something like this concept… for example https://jenmckenphoto.com

That is a nice looking site. They’re using the ProPhoto theme… https://www.prophoto.com/ which is available to purchase.

Your website is hosted by WordPress, correct? If so you don’t have the ability to use plugins. Plugins are developed for self-hosted sites. Learn more about the differences here…

I’m not seeing the pixelation in the logo. It’s sized properly… meaning it has the correct dimensions and isn’t being stretched. You would need to clean up the artwork and resave/upload.

I see, that would make a difference ?? I have hostgator, I need to figure out how to go from there I guess

So you are set up as a self-hosted site with HostGator now?

Yes, I signed up at hostgator and it had the option for wordpress. I set my site up using that. Is this okay? How would I get a www.ads-software.com site? I really appreciate your help!

Sounds to me like you already do! Have you setup Jetpack yet? It’s a new ‘must have’ plugin for self-hosted sites. Take a look…

And take a look at the slideshow plugin I mentioned earlier…

sigh of relief! Thank you! I’ll take a look at that. As for the plug-in, will it allow me to have it on the main page under the header, or menu bar?

Yes, you can set up the slideshow however you like!

Thank you very much! Last question, I’m sorry. I have the query slide show, I’m accessing it from my site’s plugin installer on wordpress.com, is this correct. This is the only way I can get it.

Installation instructions can be found here…
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/slideshow-jquery-image-gallery/installation/

I’d recommend installing via the www.ads-software.com plugin directory.

From your admin panel, click Plugins in the left bar and search for “Slideshow”. Find the plugin you want to use and click “Install Now”

    Good luck!

Hey Kristind, it’s awesome how much lorbach has helped you out! I love the clean and elegant look-and-feel of your photography site.

It looks like you’re all set up now, but I just wanted to chime in and explicitly mention – in case it helps others coming across this thread in the future – that most WordPress themes, including Forever, allow you to upload your own custom header image under Appearance > Header.
