• Before 5.6, the Custom HTML block in Gutenberg put code in a box in a font appropriate for code. This way, it was easy to distinguish HTML from regular text in the editor.

With 5.6, the Custom HTML block does not put the code in a box, and the code looks exactly the same as regular text.

My question is, WHY? This block worked the way it did for a reason, but now it’s that much harder to distinguish custom HTML from regular text. I’m frustrated at these kinds of changes after every WP update, but I want an explanation before I pass judgement.
