custom icons?

Hi how easy would it be to change this amazing plugin to allow custom icons?
Currently use fontastic but noticed font awesome now offers fort awesome that allows you to insert custom icons (https://fortawesome.com).
If not a difficult change could you please instruct me with a solution, otherwise if quite difficult, i would be happy to pay for a pro version of this plugin if you ever decided to create one.
