• Hi Guys I’m new and i can’t find an answer to this quation in the FAQ’s?

I recently moved my very popular piano blog over from blogger to wordpress.com and loved the layout and editing functions. I have now decided to go the whole hog and get the blog hosted.

One thing is missing that I really like that comes with wordpress.com and I can’t find a plug in like it. Under the appearance tab there is an option to have a custom image header, a very simple process all you do is browse your computer for an image and upload, a simple crop tool crops the image to fit your header and voila the cropped image becomes the background for your header (so simple)

here is the header and blog at my free wordpress.com one [click]

and here is the header at the hosted site [click]

As you can see there is just no comparison

Is there a plug in that does the same just as easily or in the exact same way?

    thanks for any help

    Lee

  • You could just rename the image to kubrickheader.png and upload it to the kubrick theme’s images folder to replace the current one. e.g. what i did to https://post.netspier.net

    Hi Tonny

I’m sorry to be totally thick but where do I find the “kubrick theme’s images folder”?

Ah yikes I’ve just found an article

    https://www.aetas.dk/archives/8

This looks like what I have to do??…man that is never gonna happen, the guy might as well be talking in Swahili!!

Nope I definitely need a plug in that works just like the wordpress.com does because that is about as techie as I get ??

I meant you look at the sites’s header. The kubrick images are located at wp-content -> themes -> kubrick -> images. You can do this with any image and it will automatically resize on the browser to the default header’s dimension.

    Hi tonny

Are you ready for a long night? LOL

when you say the location “wp-content”

are we talking the folder inside of the wordpress files I downloaded, in my browser or through an ftp client?

    Lee

They look different, because you are using two different themes.

On wordpress.com, you are using the Kubrick theme (that is the “Default” theme).

On the hosted site, you are using “Connections Reloaded”.

You can switch in your admin dashboard –> Appearance, to the Default theme, then follow tonnyochieng’s instructions

    wordpress folder/wp-content/themes/default/images/

ftp to your server where the files are, and upload there the renamed image of the piano.

    Xact

by the way any can work u could do this in the downloaded files before you upload anyything or just upload the image to that place in your site directory. I must admit even your wordpress.com header sure is clumsy.

    seasidelee,

You don’t need to be a techie for “customize” a theme to yours ! Go to the folder of your theme and you’ll see an “images” folder, just open it and you’ll see graphics. Then you just need to analyse regarding the pictures and you site which pic is the one on your site and open it on a Gimp, Photoshop…and change it inside with out knowledge.
