    Hi everyone,

I am asking for help because I have an issue with the custom language file of The Events Calendar that I haven’t been able to solve despite my efforts.
I am using the French version of the mo/po files, but I needed to do some edits to the strings to meet the site’s purpose.
I followed the steps as explained on this tutorial : https://support.theeventscalendar.com/286341-How-to-Override-Plugin-Language-Files.
Unfortunately, when I upload my custom files in the wp-content/languages/plugins folder, a few hours later they are systematically overriden by fresh copies of the original files.
The events calendar is the only plugin for which the custom language files in that folder behave that way.
Any hint or help will be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance
    Best wishes
    Frederic

    Hi @lemigueux

Sorry to hear about this. Not quite sure what that might be happening.
One of my guesses is that there is a piece of data in the header of the po file that checks for version or date. Might be your po version is behind the one on the .org servers.
How you might be able to ‘fix’ that is updating your po file from the pot that is shipped with the plugins. This will not change your strings, only update the source string set and possibly update the date in the header – if that is the issue.

Another thing you can try is installing the Loco Translate plugin.
There when you create a translation it will allow you to choose a custom location, something related to Loco, which the plugin claims will never be overwritten and is super save.
Once you made a copy in that folder, overwrite it with your files and you should be set.
Running a sync would be recommended here as well to update the string set of your translation to the latest.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Andras

    Hi Andras,

Thank you very much for such a quick response and for your solution proposals.
I am trying your first solution first. Usually it takes only a couple of hours for my custom files to be overridden. So I’ll check a bit later to see if it is still there. Of course I’ll let you know if it is fixed or not.
    Thanks a lot.
    Cheers,

    Hello Andras,

Just to let you know that your first guess seems to be the actual reason of the issue I faced. Since I updated the po file yesterday I haven’t noticed any change in my language files.
    Thank you for you help,
    Cheers,

    Frederic
