• I have a relatively new installation of WordPress 4.6.1 with only a few themes and plugin added. When I attempt to us the customization feature to create a new menu, I am able to complete the steps and see the desired changes in Live Preview. However, when I “save and publish”, the changes are not pushed to the site and the site remains unchanged. Further, when I return to the menu area in customization, the changes I just made are lost. The same behavior is exists for the themes I added as well as the pre-loaded themes.

It is checked. The bigger issue is that my changes appears in the live preview, but “save and publish” has no effect on the actual site. When I return to Customize, the menu I created is not saved.

Also, I already tried deactivating all plugins, and this too did not resolve the issue.

…and, I just confirmed this behavior exists on another site I have that is running WordPress 4.6.

What I am finding is that I have to create the menu using the traditional WordPress menu feature, and Live Preview is not working.

    Hi Todd,
Can you please say which theme template you are using?

May be theme template is having some problems thats why the menu is not coming.

It is happening on every theme: Twenty Sixteen, Twenty Fifteen, and Make. Also, I just did a new install of 4.3.1 with no additional themes, plugins, etc, on a new subdomain and the issue exists there too. The problem is that Live Preview is not working. Any changes made using Live Preview are not saved.

I am continuing to narrow in on the core issue. I am able to save other theme elements like Title and Tagline. When I click “Save & Publish”, the button changes and displays “Saved”. By contrast, when I click “Save & Publish” on the menu section, the busy icon displays as if something is happening, but the “Save & Publish” text returns to the button (and, of course, nothing is saved).

    Hi ToddA,

[email protected] is my mail id.. if you can share the login and password it will be easy to know the problem n deriving solution.

    Thnks,
    Smita:)

I have the same problem. Brand new install of WP4.6.1 , using twenty sixteen theme.
I’ve changed the BG color. I’ve added a header image. I’ve set up Social Links menu.
    All of that displays.
Created an About page, added page to primary menu (along with “Home”) in the customizer, went to save the primary menu — and all I get is “Save and Publish”.
Nothing saves. Menu displays on live preview, but does not save.
I edited the menu on the dashboard Appearance –> Menu and saved it – now it displays as “Saved” when I go to the customizer.
So it seems to be an issue with the customizer.

    Hi Anatis,

Try to customise the menu from Appearance > Menus. Select there desired menu as primary menu and please check if it works.

    ??

I’ve been having the same issue for years. It’s exactly as described by ToddA and Anatis. The MENU section of the CUSTOMIZER does not save the changes.
The issue has been around for years, perhaps since the beginning of the CUSTOMIZER. I’ve tried several fresh installations with default WP themes(2013-2017) it never worked. I’ve started few treads about the issue in the past – NO solution.
I just accepted that all my Menu customization will be done using the Appearance > Menus. However, after upgrading to WP4.7 and switching to 2017theme… yet, seeing the same issue… still unresolved… bothered me again. Hence, I’m here – just to find more people having the same issue. Googling the issue will bring you hundreds of threads and people complaining about it – I’m yet to find a solution.

Yes this has been going on for some time, where Customizer changes appear to be saved & published, yet when you attempt to leave Customizer you get the message that your changes have not been saved. Clicking save and publish again does nothing to solve the issue.

However this only happens on certain attempted changes on Customizer, I’ve never had the problem changing site identity for example, but always get the problem on header media, menus and widgets.

Its an ongoing problem/flaw with Customizer and I wait for each WordPress update to see if it has been resolved, nothing yet though through 4.7.1

Same here, all themes I try and the latest WordPress variety that just released….Hope they fix this soon!

    Classic.

Just another bug, neglected, unfixed for years.

I got my hopes up when I saw the length of the thread, then those hopes were crushed in an instance when the realisation hit that the only replies to this thread are “me too” responses, which add no value to the thread other than to further strengthen the viewpoint that this sort of neglect seems to be a common trend in software.

This is why I don’t use WordPress out of choice.

I have the same problem too
