I want to use Custom Metadata Fields, but I have some issues. When I create a new entry, I will see the option for a custome metadata field at the bottom. This is however not shown when editing an entry, so you only have 1 chance to add it (it seems).

How can I edit the fields on an already created account?

When I then want to display the entry, I see the Custom Metadata Field, but they are shown with the header “Custom Metadata Field” which I would like to change to something else. Is that possible?

Here is a screnshot of a new entry:

Here is a screenshot of the same entry being edited, notice the last field is now Excerpt, so no longer seeing Custom Metadata:

And lastly, the template and how it shows “Custom Metadata Field” where I would like to show custom text:

In addition, I see that it matters when you create the user which field you choose first, as that determines the order they are shown. As I cannot edit it afterwards, it requires me to re-create the entries and remember to choose the same order each time.

All support appreciated, as if this works I think I will be buying this for use on my site.

The Custom Metadata Fields are disabled from displaying by default in both the add and edit views when managing directory entries.

You must enable it in the edit mode, like in the add mode. To do this, edit any entry, click the Screen Options tab in the upper right of the screen, and enable the Custom Metadata Fields option. You will now be able to edit the custom metadata when editing entries.

It is possible to change the Content Block heading label.

    • Install the Say What? plugin.
    • Add a new text change with the following settings:
      • Original text: Custom Metadata Fields
      • Text domain: connections
      • Text context: leave this blank
      • New text: Put the text you want to be displayed

I hope this helps; please let me know.

Thank you very much for the support. I guess it is a case of RTFM, but what confused me was the fact that I could see the Custom Metadata upon creation of the contact, and the no more.

Your suggestion for Say What works a charm as well ??

Looking forward to doing a bit more testing before commiting to buy.

    No problem; happy to help!

RE: what confused me was the fact that I could see the Custom Metadata upon creation of the contact, and the no more.

Both views, add/edit, can be configured separately. This was a request from users many years ago because it seems many had different “flows” when adding an entry vs. editing an entry. The “Custom Metadata Fields” was hidden by default in both views, similar to how WP hides it on its add/edit pages/posts admin pages.

RE: Your suggestion for Say What works a charm as well

I agree. As a bonus, it works for all plugins that are translation ready (which all popular ones are). I is definitely a handy “tool belt” plugin that goes on nearly all sites I work with.

    Have a great day!

I just added an important note to the docs about this field to explain how to enable it.

Is there any other place where I could mention this that would have helped you?

Looks good to me. I think the only improvement I could think of is to be able to search the documentation (I could not find a way to do it)..

    Thanks for the suggestion!

I added an interactive search form to the top of the contents page:

    I hope this helps!
