    Yes, you can absolutely write your own custom payment plug-in. The PayPal gateway itself is written in the same way it would need to be to be used as a plug-in, although it’s shipped integrated with the plug-in.

    Both the Stripe and Authorize.net add-ons are examples of how you would write a custom payment gateway: https://www.joedolson.com/my-tickets/add-ons/.

    I don’t have any detailed documentation written on how to do this, although there are some comments in the code in the PayPal gateway that may help you.
