• I am a new user of WordPress. When I tried to save the custom permalink no confirmation is displayed, virtually nothing happens. I read the permalink article in WP support page and found that .htaccess file should be created when a permalink is saved. I found there is no .htaccess file created in my root folder of my site.

Now what should I do? Pl help me sort out this issue.

    Thanks
    Niru

  • First, see this

    1. The .htaccess file is hidden file, in your ftp client, enable showing hidden files.

    2. Make sure the folder it is on has proper write permissions.

    3. Create a default one, if one does not exist, and then try to edit permalinks again- just save your current setting.

    Hi
Thanks for your reply. I created the .htaccess file in my local computer and uploaded it to the root folder, but I still could not save the customer permalinks. What should I do now ?

I am using HostGator as my hosting service provider and not GoDaddy.

I appreciate your reply and thanks in advance.

    Regards
    Niru

    A) Did you use a plain text editor like NotePad to create/edit the file?

    B) Did you upload to the root of your blog?

    C) Did you verify file permissions?

    D) Refer to Hostgator, they should be able to help fix the issue.

thanks for your reply. I finally contacted Hostgator for a solution. It seems that other plugin BP Autoblogger is interfering with the Dashboard functionality. with the solution given by them i managed to create a custom permalinka.

    anyway thanks a lot.
