my site is a recipe site and the recipes aren’t displaying (quite critical!) it says There has been a critical error on this website. Everything else on the site is fine – we have chef pages, potato variety page made with the custom post type and they are fine

Also shop, blog etc and is fine

I have put the site to maintenance, and I have gone back to a previous backup but the problem is still there.

I can’t get in to edit any recipes, I can’t access from the front end (all the recipes are the same – but it is at maintenance just now)

    Thank you

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    I should add –
I have tried on different browsers
I have deactivate and reactivated this plug in as well as other plug ins

You’re going to need to check your error logs, or hopefully you’re getting an email notification about the technical error happening as well as some extra information about what may be causing it.

Have you been doing any edits to the site outside of some amount of content entry? Any plugins/theme updates that got applied? CPTUI setting changes?

There’s most likely some sort of PHP error occurring, but what it is, we can’t say from our end.

    thanks for prompt reply
How do I check error logs?
I have not had any email notification about it
No edits for about 3 weeks. I had added new recipes and a blog post. No edits on CPTUI settings
Unfortunately I have been away and so I can’t say exactly when this happened – my backups only go back a week, so obviously more than that. I am in the site a lot as I send links to people, and so I know I would notice within a day or two.
Plug ins are all updated as are themes but this is done automatically

You will probably need to reach out to your hosting support to locate where they store their error logs, and their support should also be able to help determine recent errors that are going on.

The fact that there’s automatic updates happening doesn’t necessarily help as a whole, without some sort of log trail of what’s been done and changed.

I am confused as to why/how only one Custom Post Type doesn’t work and the others do.

I am on a chat bot with my the host, that is going round in circles, and am trying go speak to someone.
I have deactivated every plugin and nothing changes – and so the problem is definately with this.

Yes, an actual human would be best for this, as they’ll be more competent than the chatbot.

I don’t know what to tell you otherwise without us having more information. I still have to suspect it’s something with any of the templates created for the specific post type or a general template that gets applied for all post types.

    (@amyskea)

ok – that is very interesting! I hadn’t thought of that. I looked at my templates and I can’t get in to edit that one, but I can for all others. The date is strange though – I have def been in this since then.
The icon for the template shows the critical error.
So I assume, I need to re-do template.
If this is the case, what could have caused this (and why just this custom post?) We have had this for over a year with no problems, but obviously I can’t have this happening again

Sadly we still can’t answer that without knowing what exactly the error is that’s occurring. It could be one of anything.

Since it looks like the webpage in question is working again, we’re going to mark this thread as resolved.

    Thanks for your help
I was away for a few days
The template needed to be redone as the backups didn’t go back far enough
