Custom Post Types

    Hello again,

    I have set up a custom post type using the Types plugin, and made a post, but I found out these types of posts won’t display on the home page. I found a plugin to solve that, but then I discovered that custom post types cannot be made “sticky” by default (I need some of the posts to be in the “Featured” section).

    Do you perhaps know a solution to this? If not, then I will just use some custom fields and a post template to get what I want. Custom Post Types just sounded like a more elegant way of setting everything up, but has turned out to be a bit tricky.

    Hey Jason. If you don’t set any of the posts to sticky, Expound will just pick the most recent five, which may work for what you’re doing. Otherwise, you can try and install Jetpack which has a featured content module, also supported by Expound. Featured posts will then be picked by a tag which you set in Settings, rather than sticky.

    My plan is to have 4 permanent posts in the lower featured posts position, so need to sticky them.

    Okay, I have installed Jetpack and set a tag “feat” for the posts I want to have stickied, but I see that tags can’t be used for custom post types either. Is there a way to activate it? If not, I’ll go set-up some post templates.

    Jason, from what I see in the plugin description you mentioned, you should be able to assign taxonomies to the post types that you have created, have you tried that?

    Hello, yes it seems I can do that, though I am a bit out of my depth now. Will go do some research about taxonomies. Not 100% sure how I would use them yet, still learning this WordPress thing!

    Hi Konstantin, I am marking this topic as resolved, I am going another route – setting up some post templates instead – it is easier to set up for me at the moment.

    Will maybe look into something else in future (I have another site to create, I think custom post types will be perfect there), but for now it will work 100%. Thanks for your assistance.
