    Hi Tobias,

I have a pre-installation question to ascertain whether tablepress can do what I want it to do.

    QUESTION

I have a custom post type (people) inside which there are various custom fields: first name, last name, rank, date of death etc

Can I use TablePress to display a sortable table containing data extracted from these fields within the custom post type.
The idea being that people can find the person of interest quickly and click on a link to take them to that particular custom post entry.

Previously I’ve just created a table with manually entered data an a link to a page for each, but that’s a bit cumbersome, involves duplication of data input with potential for errors etc.

    And a brief second QUESTION

Can I use the free version to input all the data and then upgrade to the pro version later, with no data loss? (I assume so but just want to confirm)

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Unfortunately, TablePress can not extract and display data from other sources, like these custom fields, sorry. It can only show its own tables, so that you would have to create such a table manually here, or you could maybe fine another way to extract the data from the fields and bring them e.g. to the CSV format, from which you can then import the table into TablePress. This would not remove the duplication but maybe some manual work.

As for your second question: That’s no problem! When installing a TablePress premium version, all tables, settings, etc. will of course be kept. You will not lose any data there!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
