I’m in need of a way to be able to add a product to my woocommerce store at the invoicing stage as I make a lot of custom products or design work. For example if a client wants me to design a logo for them for which I charge varying amounts depending on time it will take. I would like to be able to add a new invoice and then add a invoice line where I can enter in a custom product name like “Knitting logo” and then enter a custom cost. At the moment I can only add an existing product that I have added as a product but that doesn’t work so well because what if the next client wants a Repair Shop logo and the next a Gardening logo, or Gardening brochure. The item lines need to be specific and not just “graphic design” At the moment I just use a product I have called “Custom Art” and then edit the cost but it is not specific enough for my customers needs.

    Hi there,

In this case you will need to either use a generic product such as the “Custom Art” product you are currently using, or make a custom product for each order. There wouldn’t be a way to add this as part of the order creation process, you’d need to do so before generating the manual order.

Ok. I have been doing it the way you describe but my offerings have changed a bit and I have been getting more and more custom items that need descriptive line names. I was hoping hard that there was something out there that changed over the years but it sounds like I’m stuck with a poor workaround.

    Hi there,

If you need to make your generic product more descriptive, you could always add in Line Item Meta to each product that adds a description.

You can see how to do so here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/managing-orders/#editing-or-adding-order-items

This way the order will show the meta on the admin side like so:

The info will also show on the orders page and the order emails:

Would that work for your needs?
