• Custom search result snippets are not displaying even for pages/posts that have a custom excerpt. My theme supports excerpts for pages, but right now, as of the latest version, calls to the_excerpt() are returning this HTML on my site for ALL results:

    <p><span class="excerpt_part"></span></p>

This would be undesirable even for pages/posts that have no custom excerpts. If there’s no excerpt, no HTML should be output.

That’s unusual – if Relevanssi can’t create a custom excerpt, it should take the excerpt from the beginning of the post.

Is there something unusual in your site? Is the post content stored in the WP post content? Is it just normal text, or something else? I’m unsure what could cause this in the first place, except empty posts.

Have you tried disabling other plugins to see if there’s a conflict between Relevanssi and another plugin?

All the pages on this site are built entirely with Advanced Custom Fields. I do not have custom field support turned on in Relevanssi, so it’s not unexpected that most of the pages have blank excerpts. Like I say, though, there is one page that has a custom excerpt typed out, so that should appear in search and it does not. The title of the page shows, no excerpt.

In that case, there’s indeed nothing for Relevanssi to work on, so simply disable the custom excerpts from Relevanssi and you should be fine.
