Custom Selector

I’ve got to ask – How does this work/what is it supposed to do?

a[href*=”.jpg”]:not(.nolightbox,li.nolightbox>a), area[href*=”.jpg”]:not(.nolightbox)

The default elements do not work for me automatically, so I need to work out what’s going wrong or what I need to add.
