    Hello,

Love your custom sidebar plugin, however I have experienced an issue. Currently in an “admin” role, there is no problem setting a sidebar for a specific post.

However, when I assign a user as a “non-admin” role — either an “author” or “contributor” or “editor”, while the sidebar widget appears in the post admin interface, this non-admin role can not save the post with a specific sidebar. Only the admin role can.

Do you know how I can enable this functionality for a non-admin role?

I am currently using the “User Role Editor”(https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/user-role-editor/) and I don’t see any line items associated with adding functionality for a user role for the custom sidebar widget. (see https://snag.gy/IZ8bry.jpg for reference)

    thank you,
    matt

  • Hello @merosler,

I’m sorry for the late response on our side.

I checked on my site and user with role Editor can publish posts and pages with custom sidebars. Author role can only publish posts – but in my test it was also able to do that with custom sidebars.

What exact error do you see when you try to publish posts with different roles than admin?
Can your non-admin users publish posts when custom sidebar is not enabled?

Please note, that Contributor role by default can’t publish posts or pages. (https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Roles_and_Capabilities )

    kind regards,
    Kasia

    Hi kasia,

I actually figured it out. I needed to grant the “contributor” the ability to “Edit theme options”. With this, a contributor can set a specific sidebar for the post and it saves properly.

    Now it works.

    thank you,
    Matt
