Custom sorting options (asc/desc)

Hi all, I have a question about the sorting options. I have seen in the documentation that it is possible to sort by meta data. I have added individual data to each product and wanted to sort them in ascending or descending order.
According to this description this should work:
https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/custom-sorting-options-ascdesc/#But the sorting has no influence on the order. Nothing happened. Does this snippet still work in the newer Woocommerce versions or is this a bug?
