    Out of the box, an order with a pre-order product in it goes to “Processing…” is it possible to have these go to a Pre-Ordered status, instead? This status exists on my site already.

    The behavior you’re experiencing is likely due to a compatibility issue. I supposed you’re using a 3rd plugin for custom order status, can you reach out to their support team if they provide any settings or options to set rules for specific products. This might help automate the process for orders containing pre-order items.

    While the pre-order product orders currently go to the “Processing” status, you still can manually change the order status to “Pre-Ordered” from your end.
