Custom Template or Standard Page.php

I want to have all my Pages display just the Post/Page Title without any of the other items (ie. author, time, date…)

Question is… how do i accomplish this?

1)does WP look to the page.php first then the index.php? so must i have and edit the page.php to strip out the stuff not needed?

2)must i create a new template for all pages except blog post page?

I think i accomplished this once before, but cannot remember how
