Hi Grzegorz,
Not a problem at all ?? Keep them coming :D!
Example Titles for your Website
I’ll be using good example titles throughout this reply, marked in bold text :).
Red is a guideline, not a standard.
Unless it’s law, like a traffic light.
I’m really considering removing the red from length counters, as it’s too much of an alarm (red indicates a serious issue, right?). I believe, as I see many people over-optimizing, that I should only use red when there’s a bigger issue present. A title that’s too short isn’t one of them.
Are long site names bad?
A longer site name leaves less room for a title, while a shorter name has the benefit of adding more. Neither are good or bad. It’s a balance you’ll have to find for yourself, and your target audience.
How to create a good Page Title
Your titles should indicate exactly what the page is about.
Ask someone (a friend, family, local cashier) what “My Title – Page Name – Website Name” is about, if the answer is (somewhat) correct, your title is good!
Although this requires another person :), it’s a good guideline.
Of course, this is not always possible, but some good common sense will also help a lot :).
Reaching your Target Audience with Titles
For example, when you’re targeting an audience that’s looking to solve a problem, a title like “How to do this and that – Site Name” is perfect. When you’re covering a story, a controversial action and vague subject is a good way to go.
Write for like-minded people, like yourself.
Most of the times, as an author, you’ll know what you want to write about and you shouldn’t be too concerned about the subject. After all, in general, you’re writing for like-minded people. They’ll understand you.
Having fun with Page Titles
Now my mind for titles within The SEO Framework updates is always looking for something with hidden messages, like “Authentic Agility Acquired“, the gist here is that I wanted triple A :). But as you can see, its topic is the update, so I made sure to include the version number within.
The same goes for “Data Feed Influx“, where I had an influx of users that gave me data, as well as covering feeds. Hidden messages, everywhere. Not a recommended way to go, but I do have my fun with it :).
Titles which are to the Point
More to the point pages like “Using Filters” (I’ll stop linking now) of course have the right titles. I did change the “SEO Data Migration” page title to “WordPress SEO Data Migration”. The latter is obviously better as it points to the product in use.
How to use custom Titles – The SEO Framework
A complete custom title for a single page is currently not possible.
The SEO Framework, in this state, is like a guardian against bad practices.
However, if you wish to remove all “- Your site name” extensions, you can do so through the Title Settings within the SEO Settings page. This will allow complete custom titles, although I do not recommend doing so.
The Description indicator bug in The SEO Bar
About the diacritical characters, could you give me the description which warns you about this? This has been reported with a French description as well. The more info I have for this bug, the better I’m able to locate its cause.
