“Custom User Metadata”

Hello again,
Because of the way how I designed extension to be separate and apart from the main plugin, and the fact that not all metadata is displayed by default, getting your new ones to show is 2 part.

After you have enabled the extension and added a new metadata name, it will show up on the review edit screen. However for it to show up on the frontend you have to go in the settings page on the “Templates” tab and add your new metadata field to the “Book Details Items” settings. Then you will see it on the frontend.

On the “Extensions” screen, when I activate the Custom User Metadata, a “Settings” button appears but clicking on this “settings” button has no effect. I’m just wondering if I am doing this the right way around.

I know this is quite an imposition, but imagine I want to display the text “Click here for Author’s Website” and have the author’s website open under a new tab… is that what you mean by “metadata” … (told you! I am a beginner!)

When you click on the “Settings” button for an active extension, a modal window should open up. For the “Custom User Metadata” extension you would enter the names of the new metadata fields you would want to add to the plugin.

With that said, the use case you have in mind is not what I designed the feature for. It is for adding addition metadata such as duration, illustrator, bit-rate, etc.

For what you want, I would suggest you use regular links in the body of your review.

While I have you here, what do you think of a user submitted reviews feature? Like a page where you site’s visitors can go and fill out a book review form to submit a review to your website.

I would welcome that idea, but for my site, I would need a preview accept/delete/block button to prevent malicious reviews and obscene comments.

Incidentally, I solved the “Author’s Website” issue by adding another purchase link “Author’s Website” on the component page. (I wish I had thought of that before!”

Also, the “Library” feature is brilliant! I think the “formatting” issue mentioned elsewhere is probably due to the WordPress interface rather than the plugin, as a “refresh” screen quickly corrects it. It happens on my site with one or two columns being out of line.

I also like the “Slider” but would like to see five or six covers displayed in the footer at the same time rather than just the one.

Last, I’d like to see a “recent additions” footer showing the last five or six titles.

For the user submitted reviews feature, when a user submits a new review it will be added on the backend in the “Draft” status. So only a site admin can set the status to “Published”. Also, you will be emailed when a user submits a new review.

If you are referring to the overlapping images when using the sortable grid feature, it is a know issue with the IsotopeJS library I am using. There is a fix though which I have applied.

A work around you could look at for multiple book covers in your footer, is to add the slider widget in each of your footer widget locations and set it to random and only display 1 image.

Also, the plugin already has a “Recent Reviews” widget which shows the most recent widget.
