Customer Choose own Attribute on Product?

Hi,
Cant link a page as it’s not on website as dont know if its possible or not.I can set up products with attributes like colours, sizes etc but is it possible to have a space/box where the customer can enter their own preferences/attributes? Eg For one product the options would be any letter of the alphabet or a combination of letters – the variations would make a huge scroll down list to choose from, so I would prefer if a customer can just enter the letters they want. For example if I wanted a product with my name I could enter PudPud in the box.
Is this possible and am I even explaining it properly? I know what I’m trying to ask for but cannot see anything on youtube help or in past forum topics.

I understand that you would like to add extra fields to your products so customers can enter information according to their preferences, like a text box where they can write the letters they want for the product; is that right?
If correct, there is no core option to do this; you need a plugin for that.
Searching, I found the Product Add-Ons plugin that allows you to add paid or free options to your products using several field types, including radio buttons, checkboxes, drop-down fields, custom text inputs and more.
