• HI, I am totally stuck with this and am hoping for help. Currently using the Business News Theme. Flavicon at the left hand corner and background image along the top.

However, the director would like me to put widgets along the top, placed on top of the actual header. I thought I would try and beat the system, and made an image in Photoshop of all the widgets required. I then put this in the flavicon box thinking it would just expand across the top. Nope, it squeezed everything into the flavicon box.

My qualification is using HTML5 and I am therefore relatively new to WordPress and I told him that there was no way I could change the template. He has informed me, he has been told it can be changed.

Please please please can someone point me in the correct direction, in order for me to place widgets across the top of the header, on top of the image already in place.

    thanks
    Carol

  • Hi, Carol. You’ve posted your question in the support forum for the Zerif Lite theme. Is this the theme you are referring to? The support forums on www.ads-software.com are mainly for themes which are available in the WordPress Theme repository. The reason is that since we don’t have access to commercial themes, we can’t install them to examine them. So we can’t answer any questions specifically related to the theme.

However, in general, it should be possible to add a widget area in the header. You would need to create a child theme and then make the changes to the theme module which displays the header (usually header.php). You’re going to have to dig through the developer documentation, though, which isn’t something that will be easy to tackle for a beginner.

You might first want to try looking for a plugin that will add a widget area. There are quite a few in the plugin directory. Don’t be afraid to try multiple plugins until you find one that works.

Ok thanks, will have a look at it tomorrow. Meanwhile I will ignore the emails I receive asking why it has not been done yet.

Nope, I didn’t mean to post it in that particular forum. It’s been designed with a Business News theme. ??

PS If I do manage to create a child theme, would it then sit on the ‘parent’ header theme? Is that the general idea?

Give me an HTML5 website anyday of the year. Have 3 months of my degree to finish, so this is pocket money to keep me going.
