customizable starter theme suggestions

    Would like to customize a free responsive theme, and need suggestions for a basic starter theme.

    – don’t need any bells and whistles

    – want to make sure I’ll be able to use this forum in case I have questions

    – i.e., don’t want to get pointed to a third-party forum, where I might get told I need to upgrade to a paid theme in order to get support

    – preferably with a right sidebar
