• I had the 2013 theme on a wordpress.com account, and I made some minor changes to the font and colors that worked great. Now that I have moved the site to a self-hosted www.ads-software.com account, those changes are gone and I don’t see any way to make those changes again.

Normally, you get MORE customization when you move to www.ads-software.com.

    Am I missing something?

  • You’re going to want to create a child theme or use a plugin like Jetpack to let you add custom CSS to your theme.

Running your own WordPress installation does provide you an unlimited freedom to customize but it also means a lot more responsibility and a lot more learning how WordPress actually works under the hood.

    Thank you.

Going self-hosted definitely gives you more freedom in design. As bemdesign pointed out, you can manipulate the CSS quite easily, either through the theme’s Custom CSS option (if it has one), or by creating a child theme, or using a CSS plugin.

You may also want to explore different themes from the WordPress Theme Repository. It can be a bit daunting trying to find the theme that is right for the design you have in mind, but there are several themes that allow you to easily customize the appearance without having to create a child theme or using PHP (although it wouldn’t hurt to learn some).
