    Hi,

We’ve been having an issue pulling styled content from a static page onto a custom category template, and we are considering just using a static page in its place, but are concerned about not being able to have Yoast Breadcrumbs.

The static page will be in place of a parent category page (the one we are having the issues with).

This is the taxonomy using were the custom category template to work:

Parent Category Page > Child Category Page > Post

    Is it possible to do:

Static Page > Child Category Page > Post and be able to use Yoast Breadcrumbs and have that taxonomy?

Basically, replace the category page with a static page and have the same taxonomy with Yoast Breadcrumbs?

    Thank you!

    Hello @nevrsmer,

    Thanks for reaching out.

To use a static page in the breadcrumb, you have to select a static page to handle blog posts in WordPress Admin > Settings > Front page displays: Posts page. Next, navigate to the breadcrumb option and you will see the ‘Show blog page’ option.

The ‘Show blog page’ option would appear in the Yoast SEO Breadcrumbs settings only when you use a static front page instead of using the ‘Your latest posts as your front page’. You can learn more at https://kb.yoast.com/kb/implement-wordpress-seo-breadcrumbs/

    Hello Maybellyne,

    Thanks for responding.

I could not find the path: “WordPress Admin > Settings > Front page displays: Posts page.” I’m guessing it’s: Dashboard > Settings > Reading Settings > Your Homepage Displays

In Reading Settings, there’s the option “Your Homepage Displays: 1. Your Latest Posts, 2. A Static Page (Select Below). These additional two options are: 1. Home Page (choose option from drop down list), and 2. Posts Page (choose option from drop down list).

Are these the setting you were referring to? If that is the case, how do you recommend I configure the settings?

The path “WordPress Admin > Settings > Front page displays: Posts page” is not available, at least on my site.

I do not want to show posts on the the static page that I want to include the breadcrumbs chain for a certain category and the posts assigned to it.

The path would look like this: Static Page > Child Category Page > Posts. On the static page, I would Crete a photo, heading, and some paragraph text. In the photos, I would embed the URL for the child category page.

Is there a way to email you directly so I can send you the links of the static page and child category pages so you can see what I’m trying to do?

Thank you for your time and have a good day!

@nevrsmer We apologize for the confusion. The settings we were referring to are located in WordPress under Settings>Reading.

However, those settings are only in respect to the home page.

As for emailing us, you are only able to email us if you have Premium support which is included if you purchase Premium version of Yoast SEO. If you are trying to send links but not post them, you could also upload them to an image sharing site, and then reply with a link to the image.

    Hi Carl,

    Thanks for the response.

This is what I want to do:

Replace an instance of a breadcrumbs chain that is currently occupied by a parent category with a static page (see the item in bold in the first chain). I would delete the parent category and replace it with a static page.

This is the current breadcrumbs chain:

Home >> Parent Category >> Child Category >> Post

The reason for this is that I’ve run into an issue with pulling the content from a static page onto a custom category template (in this case, the Parent Category custom template page). I can pull the content, but for some reason, I can’t get it to pull the formatting/styling from the static page. Hence, the reason for wanting/needing to use the static as the styling is a bit important.

    The above chain would become:

Home >> Static Page >> Child Category >> Post

Is there a way to do this? If so, could you please explain how?

Thank you and have a good day.

    Cheers!

    Hi @nevrsmer,

Thank you for giving us more information on the situation.

However, this is not a possibility. You can’t make a static page you’ve created as a parent category archive page in the Breadcrumbs. You can always create a specific pathway using some filters, but we wouldn’t suggest doing this for this situation.

We would recommend checking how to get the styling on the ‘real’ category archive pages with your theme, instead of working around this.

    Hello Jeroen,

    Thanks for the response.

Considering this option was a last resort. As I stated in the first message, I’ve worked with the lead developer of the theme we’re using, and we were not able to pull the formatted content from the static page to the custom category template. The content pulls fine, but it it is not formatted, and the php he’s recommended has not worked.

Thanks and have a good day.

    Hi @nevrsmer,

Sorry to hear that you haven’t been able to customize the breadcrumbs for your specific case. We also have some code examples of how to edit and remove breadcrumbs.

If you are not sure how to use them, you may consider contacting a Yoast Partner who can help.
