Customize ONLY the featured post’s excerpt length on homepage?

I’d like the “featured post” on the home page to have a longer article text excerpt below it.
Since the featured post is full width, but the other articles on the home page are half width (in 2 columns), the featured post’s excerpt only fills 1 line plus a tiny bit of a 2nd line and it looks a bit funky. I’d like it to fill 2 full lines or maybe up to 3 lines of text.
