Customize search input

  • I’d like the search function on my site to mimic the one wordpress offers for its admins: a magnifier icon that displays a search box only after it has been clicked.

    After looking at the code via inspect element, I thought this functionality might be termed a ‘quick link’, but now I’m not sure as google searches haven’t turned up much about it.

    If anyone could let me know what this is called I would appreciate it. And if you have any tips for coding it that would also be great!

  • Do you mean adding a search input field like the one on the Twenty Eleven theme?

    If so, I would open up the theme, open up the searchform.php file and then look in the css for #searchform.

    Thanks for your speedy response! I didn’t realize the Twenty Eleven theme had that kind of search input. I will look at those files.
