Customized User Profile Management?

Hello WP world,

I’m having a hard time finding out if it’s possible to modify user profiles / user registration methods. I’ve come across a couple plugins but they are out of date and seem to be very buggy according to other users.

In the website I would like to create, I would like to be able to attain more information from registering users than the standard E-mail/Name setup. e.g. time zone & photo. From what I understand, it would appear that it requires some hacking to make this happen?

A mandatory and optional user input feature as well would be ideal, you know, like the red star that shows up when you register on certain sites.

I would also like to be able to manage my registered users based on the specific information they provided when registering. Like a table that allows you to click the header and it allows you to organize it based on the information that they provided.

Is this possible to do in WP/BB?
