While running WordPress 5.5.1 and Twenty Twenty theme, I am unable to use the theme customizer in Appearance > Customize. I have tried downgrading to WP 5.5 but no difference still. All plugins are disabled just to be sure it is not a conflict.

I see this error in the console:

Not sure what to do.

Please try installing https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/enable-jquery-migrate-helper/ to see if that fixes the issue.

Thanks for the response but the plugin made no difference. I do not have any plugins. I have just the Twenty-twenty theme and WP 5.5.1

OK, remove that plugin now.

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for JUST you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site. You can then use its admin bar menu to turn on/off plugins and themes one at a time. @sterndata Thanks. But since all plugins are currently deactivated and I am using 2020 theme, does a conflict check make a difference?

Hmmm… probably not. The question is what is different about your “bare” system and mine (and all the rest).

Do you have any other “MU” plugins? Please install the health check plugin and report back its findings: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/

@sterndata The health check plugin didn’t report anything. I have deleted the WP installation and reinstalled.
