Today I updated WordPress to Version 5.5 on one of my sites and found that the Customizer would never load, simply leaving me with the message “Please wait,
this might take a little while”. I also updated Mesmerize Companion to Version 1.6.112 and still run into the same infinite wait issue. Upon rolling back the site to the previous WordPress Version, everything worked as normal. I am assuming that something about WordPress 5.5 has broken the Customizer, and any sort of fix or remedy for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • I’m experiencing the same thing. Was troubleshooting all day trying to deactivate/activate plugins but nothing seemed to do the trick, now I guess I know why…I’m also new to WordPress so I had no idea what was going on

@zetapro How did you rollback to the previous version? Did you use the WP Downgrade plugin?

    Hello,

Could you please tell me if you are using the last version of the theme?

To verify this – please access WP-Admin -> Updates -> Dashboard -> Check Again and see if you have the latest versions installed.

Apparently I was missing a theme update that hadn’t shown up before. Updating to Version: 1.6.134 appears to have fixed the problem.

@hm11 If you are having the same issue that I was then you may want to check for updates for the theme (not just the Companion Plugin) and see if there is a new version to install. As for the rollback, I had simply downloaded a backup of the entire website before upgrading to WordPress 5.5 in case things would break.

@cristianbarbu Thank you for your assistance as I had no idea that there was a theme update in addition to the plugin update. As far as I can tell everything is working as expected now.

As far as I can tell, there are no additional updates to the theme I’m using. I am on the Mesmerize Companion plugin 1.6.112 and the Highlight PRO theme 1.1.31, which seem to be the latest versions.

I do have a notification that says “Please activate your Highlight PRO license to receive continued updates and support”. Based on what I’ve researched, using Highlight PRO seems to be a paid service. Is it possible that the entire Customizer is stuck in loading because the paid service has expired? It seems a bit weird to me that there is no warning saying I will no longer be able to continue editing any pages if that is the case.

Sorry I am relatively new to WordPress and I just recently inherited the site from my org, so I have no idea what was completed before me. Appreciate the help!

This isn’t working for me either and all my themes and plugins are already on the latest version.

I am having the same issue across 2 sites both are using the latest version of the theme and the plugin – any fix as of yet?

Ok for me I found that the theme update was NOT showing in the Dashboard -> Update section at all. In Appearance –> Themes it was, however, showing and updating there fixes the loading issue for me.
