customizing 2011 theme like themify theme, is it possible??

    I need expertise advise and straight to the point i shall go:

    I’ve downloaded the 2011 theme and using the information found here, I’ve gotten a good idea as to how to customize some basic things ie creating a child theme and header image, menu etc and I’m still continuing to tweak everyday. However I came across this blog and its really something that I would like mine to appear like, then I did a search and found this minimalist theme through themify but it cost US$39.

    My question today for all the wordpress expert is,
    is it possible to alter my current 2011 theme to be like those ones above by myself? What’s the skill level required and would i be better off paying the $39 fee for the themify theme?

    If its something that challenging but do-able on my own, I’d really rather do it myself and use the money for food on my travelling journey :p

  • Check out the free www.ads-software.com themes, check the photoblogging check box and have a look.

    Also a search for Minimalist returns six pages of free themes.

    These are all free to download and the licences are GPL, so you can alter whatever you want.

    To make your 2011 site look like the other theme would take a TON of customizing — not practical at all. But there are MANY free themes on this page

    So you might start there and look for a theme that is more like what you really want.

    thanks guys, i had a look at the minimalist free theme and nothing i like ?? and looking at how difficult it is to customize, i’ll just fork out $39. toodles xx

    I am creating a free (GPL2) twenty eleven photography child theme based on this topic, check back wednesday if you have not forked out $39

    I create a free child theme if I think there is enough interest in a topic, and a simple, wide, clean photo blog, photography theme, would be a good addition.

    Should have it ready for release tomorrow (Thursday), it’s looking ok, default content plus eight different list layouts, selectable for home, archive, search and on each category, with glyphicons on the column views!

    The letterbox image on the fashion category is my favorite ??

    I will do a video tutorial and link to it in the admin area before release as well!
