Customizing Sidebars

Quick Question! I am new to WP too, and #1 – I am looooving this theme. So gorgeous.

I just can’t figure out how to customize my sidebars. I don’t want all the things showing, and I can see my articles but in list view. Not thumbnail view like the template sample shows on the site. Am I missing something? I probably am ??
