• Sorry if this problem has already been treated – I did look but I couldn’t find anything.

After many years of using Customizer with no serious problems my two sites went down in September 2016 and returned a blank page. I can see all the content on my host’s server and can access it by FTP. The host, OVH France, says it’s not their problem.
I’ve eventually worked out that the problem occurs as soon as I install a Customizr Child. Before the problem, the Child updated automatically when Customizer updated itself.

With the site https://www.glenys-hanson.info/ I’ve taken it back to a version before the problem occurred.

With the site ‘https://www.esl-exos.info/` I’ve installed a fresh version of Customizer and the same thing happens when I install a Child.

I’ve read up on the “white screen of death” and “Error 500” but I don’t have sufficient technical knowledge to know which of the many possibilities is causing it. I’m also on a pretty slow connection so testing is very slow. I have tested on various up-to-date search engines on Mac 10.10.5. and Windows 7 and the problem is the same

Thanks in advance for your help.

My thought is that something in your child broke. I’d copy the .css doc’s text into BBEdit or another solid web creation software and see if it shows any flaws in your styles. Then fix that flaw and use FTP to edit your child. (I love BBEdit for this work.) Then if you’ve put anything into the functions page do the same. And if you created a new php page check that page.

Or, use the Childify Me plugin by Rocco to create a new child theme. You’ll find it in the Customizr customization UI, then create your child, and then copy your child’s CSS and php into the new child — but copy just a bit at a time and keep testing so you’ll find your flaw if it’s in your own code.

I hope this helps. Let me know if it does.

Thanks, Deb. I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve got to a faster connection where I can test “just a bit at a time”.

I took the problem to a professional on a fast connection and he saw no problem with the css. He’s still looking.

What do you mean, Deb, by “something in your child broke”? I had made no changes to the child sites for several months previous to the white screens appearing. During that time there were several automatic WordPress and Customizr updates but the sites continued to function normally.

I have the databases created by iThemes.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I still haven’t found a solution tho’ I’ve tried various things. I’ve turned on WP Debug but I don’t understand the messages.
I’m willing to pay (within reason) for help but don’t know how to find a WP expert.
