• Cyrillic fonts looks really weird. Some letters are turned 180 degrees. Is there any fix for this?

    Here is my website – https://kisa.coma.lv/ Take a look at letter Ы, which is turned around for some reason. I’ve added custom font below, and it looks fine.

    Thanks for posting this as a new topic…I think I know what the problem is. The Google font used in this theme for headings and the site title is called Playfair Display. When I inserted the font into this theme, I did not select the Cyrillic option. I will need to fix this.

    If you need this in a hurry, I can give you instructions on how to update the font. If so, please let me know.

    I will make this as part of the next theme update, but so you do not have to wait, I’m going to have you modify the theme’s functions.php file. Normally this is not done, but because the update will have this, it’s OK.

    IMPORTANT: Before modifying this file, make a copy of it somewhere in case you have to go back to it.

    Go to Appearance >> Editor
    Select the Seasonal theme and then open the Theme Functions (functions.php) file in the editor there. Look around line 124 (halfway down) for this:

    $subsets = 'latin,latin-ext';

    Make it look like this:

    $subsets = 'latin,latin-ext,cyrillic';

    Try your site out and see if that helps?

    It seems, that the cyrillic subset is working properly, just that one letter

    Here is a reply from font author:

    Dear Vadim
    That very unfortunate bug in the component order was fixed years ago. Regrettably Google Webfonts have chosen to *not* update the fonts they serve. There is nothing I can do about that.

    Fortunately you can host the fonts yourself, and you can always find the latest version of Playfair Display on Github:

    With kind regards,
    Claus

    Interesting information you found out with regards to Google fonts has not updated their fonts they serve. I’m also glad to see the font author gave you a solution.

    I’m assuming then from your link that it’s working now? I won’t be able to tell if it is or not because I don’t know the Russian language ??

    Font management is probably one of the most complex elements of design because there are so many variables involved.
