Daily GeoIP Database Download Limit Reached

    As recommended in this support ticket, I have signed up for MaxMind and am using the GeoIP Database. However, I am getting error message emails from MaxMind because the plugin appears to be trying to download the database every time the WP Cron runs. (Every five minutes using WP CLI.) I cannot find an option in the Matomo plugin to define that the plugin should only attempt to download the database in line with MaxMind’s requirements, for example once per day.

    That would suggest that a critical error is happening during the download as that task is scheduled to run only once a month. Are you getting any other emails? Do you see any relevant log information in System Report?

    Also, if you’re using some sort of managed hosting, can you tell me who your hosting provider is? Perhaps I can reproduce the issues you’re facing.

    I’m not using managed hosting. I am not receiving any other emails which indicate additional problems at this time.

    The system report indicates the following error once per day (although at random times, not always at the same time of day).

    That would suggest that the download is failing with an incomplete file. But if your system is continually trying to download the geoipdb that is most likely a symptom and not the cause. Would you be able and willing to add extra logging to your WordPress (by updating files and turning WP_DEBUG/WP_DEBUG_LOG on)? (I sent an email about this as well a couple days ago.)

    @markhowellsmead would you be able to check what the currently scheduled WP cron tasks in your WordPress are and send the information to me? (I sent an email about this as well with some more details/an alternative.) (Also note there are plugins that can display this information if you need them.)

    I am still receiving these emails at irregular intervals. They only appear in one of my installations.

    I haven’t received any further emails since manually adding the Cron schedule we discussed.
