• Hi, I just created a new, free wordpress org website but i cant do anything with it.

The Menu is empty: it only shows dashboard and profile. It’s literally a blank profile.

I’ve run a blog on wordpress org before so i don’t understand why is it not showing me any option or action i can do. Have things changed and you can’t use a wordpress org website for free anymore?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • www.ads-software.com has never hosted any sites, you might be confusing it with wordpress.com

www.ads-software.com provides the software, WordPress. You can install WordPress on your own server for free.

The wordpress.com dashboard is light blue and grey, whereas the wordpress org is black and with all the infos on the left side. I have always used the black version. I never used the light blue and grey dashboard of wordpress com

I used wordpress org with a paid hosting and domain, then moved wot squarespace. A regrettable choice.

I would like to start a new blog with wordpress org, but for free this time. Is it not possible without a paid domain and host somewhere else?

the black dashboard they show here https://www.ads-software.com is the one i used to have for free and also when i transferred to a paid domain and host.

This bit is confusing. www.ads-software.com is and always has been free. When you say “for free this time”, that makes us think you’re not using www.ads-software.com.

Like i said, I am not using wordpress org. I run my website on squarespace.

I used to use wordpress org before though, for free of course because it has always been free. What I meant is that i then started using a domain and host service in conjunction with wordpress org, therefore thats what i mean when i said i was not using it for free.

Now. today i decided to create a new website with wordpress org, but my profile is empty: the dashboard is empty and on the menu on the left the the only tab available is the profile tab. The entire menu is missing.

My question is why? Is it because I have to associate a paid domain+host with it?

How did you create a new website with www.ads-software.com exactly? That will clear up some things from our perspective.

I created a new profile on wordpress org and then i arrived on the dashboard of the website I am trying to build but the menu and dashboard are completely empty and I cannot build it.

I cannot access any action on the menu, therefore I cannot create a blogpost, a layout. there is nothing. this is why I am asking for help.

Why is there nothing on it? I cannot access the free website associated with a wordpress org profile.

I think I get your question so I’ll give it a try.

Why is there nothing on it? I cannot access the free website associated with a wordpress org profile.

That’s because accounts on this site are not connected anywhere else or to anyone’s WordPress installation. That includes your own installation and other people’s.

Your site and others are running a piece of software called WordPress. This software is free and open source, and it runs on your own servers or web hosting account.

www.ads-software.com is where we support and develop this software. However, www.ads-software.com is a separate site, not connected to your site at all. Your username and password on your site will not work on www.ads-software.com, which is where we have our site and support forums. Our logins are different from your logins.

Conversely, accounts here on these forums and related www.ads-software.com sites will not work anywhere else.

Basically, you can’t use the account here on your site or anyone’s site, because they are not connected in any way.

Does that explain it to you?

I understand, thank you very much.

So why question now is: where do i have to go to access the black dashboard and menu of wordpress org that you can see here: https://www.ads-software.com

The menu with the tabs for: Dashboard, Posts, media, pages, comments, appearance, plugins, etc?

Nowhere. You don’t get that sort of access here, no one does. No one needs that access.

There’s no reason for you to access that dashboard and only folks such as moderators, admins, editors, etc. get access to any https://www.ads-software.com/ site and even that is restricted to a few.

The only link that you get access to is login.www.ads-software.com and only for the purpose of signing in and/or resetting your password. Once you are logged in, it should redirect you to https://www.ads-software.com/support/

this is not what i asked. I want to move back my website to wordpress because its the one I used to use and enjoyed. the dashboard of wordpress i used was that one, so i dont understand what the fuss is all about. why cant i use the black dashboard ? Ive used that for years and now you’re telling its not possible? If I am the admin of my own website why shouldn’t I?

I just want to transfer my website back to wordpress and work with the black interface that is normal for every blogger on wordpress.

Let’s take a step back here.

Apparently at some point you had a website using WordPress. You either Downloaded it from here and installed it on your own, or your old Web Hosting company installed it for you or some other option.

You then decided to go to Squarespace. That means your ‘old site’ so WordPress is probably either gone and deleted by your hosting company or your tech, or left on your previous Hosting Company etc etc. That is something that we can’t know as it was yours and yours alone.

Now you just want to get back to WordPress? Sure thing 2 options:

1] You go to https://www.ads-software.com/download/ download it on your own to set it up on the server / hosting provider that you want.

2] Get a Hosting plan somewhere and maybe the have an Auto Installer or they can do it for you ( all major hosting companies have auto installers btw ).

We don’t do hosting here, we do support and develop WordPress as a software so you can download it and do whatever you like with it ^_^ .

This website and your profile here have nothing to do with what you ‘had’ or want to have as a ‘personal website’.

Your profile here is only to use these forums to get support.

    Thank you Xenos,
this is exactly what i meant when i said i wanted to get back on wordpress for free, instead of paying host+domain again.

It is clear that it’s not possible anymore. I used to have a website hosted on wordpress, therefore my blogs name was thisandthat.wordpress where i could put plugins for free and edit it with the black dashboard and menu. Then i turned to paid host+domain with bluehost+wordpress.

Now it looks like if you want a free wordpress website you have to use the wordpress.com dashboard only, which i really dislike.

Therefore my only option with the black dashboard is to resort to paying a new host again? There is no free access to it?

OK! That last reply shared the light with thisandthat.wordpress !

You are actually confusing the .COM with the .ORG as a means of reference you can read more on https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

So your first site the ‘free’ should’ve been on the .com. Do not confuse this ( wordpress.ORG ) website + forums with the .com one. I’m not sure if they use the same admin panel as WordPress etc but at some point maybe they did :].

There is no other way though you either go to .com and have the new dashboard or actually get a server and set it up on your own as you said if you want the black dashoboard etc..

What you are probably looking for is this -> https://wordpress.com/#plans : Free plan :).

If you want the WordPress site to be viewable on the internet, at some point you will need to pay for a domain name (name-of-your-site.com) and for hosting (putting it on a server where everyone on the internet can find it). So no, it’s not possible to have a WordPress site without paying for a domain name and/hosting. But it looks like you may be confusing WordPress.com (where you can get a free site running WordPress) and www.ads-software.com (where you download WordPress the software to install and run on a server).
