I guess this is another 2.8 problem story. I used the automatic upgrade function to update my blog.
The update gave 1 error during the process but the error went away when i refreshed it, didnt note the error.

Now the blog has been updated and is working but the entire dashboard look has been broken. I have given screenshot links below of the dasbboard. I have checked the F.A.Q for help.:
    Have tried deactivating all plugins
Have tried setting the default wp theme.
    Tried clearing the browser cache

    Could someone help me out?

  • This thread is discouraging to me…

I upgraded to 2.8 last month, using the auto-upgrade plug-in. At first, everything was fine. Then the visual editor stopped working. That was annoying, but today my dashboard broke. What I see on wp-admin looks remarkably like https://metalseinen.com/PubImages/4-1.JPG

The gradual degradation of WordPress is the strangest part of this. I haven’t tried to do anything fancy with WordPress since I installed 2.8 — I just use the program (to add the occasional post, read my comments, and review my spam). Probably the fanciest thing I’ve done was to add a couple of additional spam-words to the moderation list.

To address this, I’ve disabled all plugins except Akismet, but that hasn’t helped any. (Other than Akismet, I was only running the backup plugin and the auto-upgrade plugin. I don’t want to lose Akismet, as I’m getting a lot of spam these days, which Akismet is effectively blocking.) I started to replace WP files, but the network administrator on the system I was using blocked my FTP access before I could finish the job.

Here’s hoping that replacing the wp-admin and wp-includes directories does the trick!

Likewise I am also having the same problem with WordPress 2.8.6. My dashboard looks the same as the screen shots above. I’ve checked it in IE8 and Firefox 3.5 under Windows 7 and Firefox 3.5 under Ubuntu Linux. I must admit that I’m a little disconcerted that such a mature application should fail like this.

I get this now, but only because I’m using an old machine. My laptop has gone for repairs, so I’m using an old computer with win XP. My brother is logging in to the same dashboard just fine on his pc, so it must be a setup on my pc.
Does anyone know if I need any applications like java or whatever to run this website properly?

I get the same screen as in the https://metalseinen.com/PubImages/4-1.JPG above.

    Thanks.

I don’t understand why this issue is “resolved”. I don’t see a solution in here anywhere.

I’m in the same boat; a plain WordPress install that’s been there for a long time, and only used the automatic update process inside the dashboard. No changes recently other than posts, and the dashboard is unusable even through the blog still runs. Same issue as the screen snapshots in this post, I notice some of the dashboard elements reporting that javascript is not enabled, which is not true.

    No help at all?

I have been having the same issue forever. I thought it was just me. I have done everything. I have reached through the phone and choked about 5 technical support people at my hosting company.

And, all this time it was wp itself? So when are they going to fix it? My DUI Blog looks fine on the site, but the dashboard looks just like that pic above.

But, seriously is uploading all the files the answer? or someone else said delete the files and reupload them. that seems just, crazy. You’d delete your blog? isn’t it?
