• Resolved cmajaski

I haven’t logged in to my blog for a few months and today have noticed that the dashboard is completely empty so I can’t access anything except wp news and wpblog. I initially had a problem logging in, but that has been resolved. I have read in the forum to disable plugins, but I have nothing to disable or access in the dashboard. Anyone have any idea how to get my dashboard back?

    Thanks!

  • You can deactivate your plugins by using FTP or Cpanel to change the name on the plugins folder –

    wp-content
         plugins.HOLD

Thanks, I finally did figure that out and deactivated the plugins but my dashboard didn’t come back. Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks for your help!

You can do the same thing with your theme – change the name on the active theme’s folder.

I have tried that also. The site just went blank completely until I renamed it but the dashboard is still empty. I don’t have any options to create posts or anything.

But your site is working? What’s the URL?

Yes, it’s working otherwise. I just can’t get to anything through the dashboard.

So that has several plugins and the platform theme active? I thought you deactivated all plugins and changed to a default theme.

I deactivated everything to see if it changed the dashboard and then reactivated. When I deactivated the theme the site just went blank.

Do you want me to deactivate everything again?

    Thanks

Yes, rename the plugins folder. As to the theme, do you have twentytwelve theme in the themes folder?

You should be renaming only the platform folder:

    wp-content
        themes
            platform.HOLD
            twentytwelve

You need a default theme in there so WP can use that when you rename your theme.

Also, just to be sure, have you cleared your your browser cache or tried another browser?

    (@cmajaski)

It’s deactivated but doesn’t activate the other theme. Just appears blank and twentytwelve is in there.

I tried a different browser. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

That’s odd. When you said you solved your login problem – how did you do that? You’ll likely need to reinstall WP.

You’re also using an outdated version of WP – which is a major security risk so you’ll want to get that updated ASAP too.

Do you have a current backup of your site? I’d strongly suggest you do that before doing anything more.

I just kept selecting the change password option until it finally took. Which incidentally, was probably the 400th time they emailed the link.

Okay, going to google how to do everything else you told me to do without being able to use my WP dashboard. I have the WP update, could you tell me which folder that needs to be in?

    Thanks for your help,

    Christina

    These should help you :):

But also be aware that your theme and plugins may also need to be updated.

And do make sure you have a backup first!

You know, that password thing makes me think that you might want to check with your hosting company to be sure nothing’s going on there. Just a thought.
