  • I have godaddy and I did the upgrade from there too, but I am still getting the same 404 error page! Where is the love?

Download it and do it by FTP manual. Is the best way to go.

THANK YOU for this post! I’m not skilled in the back-end mechanics of WordPress and this post just saved me!!

Your welcome. I did it the same way and it succeded. But I use the dutch version. So I am glad that it went good by you.

So replace everything except the theme I am using??? is that correct?

That is correct. Also NOT your plugins Take only that from the wp-content \wp-content\languages\ no more. I did siple overwriting every thing and it went good.

updating via go daddy resolved my issue!!

    it seems to work yes

any plans to update to a new WP ver to fix this? would rather wait for fix instead of dealing with arounds to this version. thx!

Yes! Thanks so much for posting. I had this same issue and was locked out of my WP dashboard. I logged into GoDaddy, installed the patch (was on pins and needles while it took and hour to be installed! ) and GoDaddy’s patch fixed the site. So I am now successfully updated to WP 3.4.2.

This is freakin’ ridiculous!! I couldn’t update to 3.4.1 and now I can’t update to 3.4.2 without getting locked out of my wp-admin screen. I’m making a motion that WP.org get it together and never launch an upgrade without testing it first. It’s called BETA!!

So the short and sweet is: if you’re using GoDaddy, upgrade through their tool, not through the dashboard. Just went through that choice slice of idiocy and I’ve got a bunch of sites.

    Happiness is mine.

For all users, regardless of their host, do the upgrade manually. As in, grab the download from here: https://www.ads-software.com/download/ and then upload both the “wp-admin” and “wp-includes” folders to a dummy directory. Then move those folders to their proper location (ie. the directory where you installed your blog), and then all should be fine. Be sure to overwrite/delete your old directories when doing this. Let me know if this helps.

NOTE: DO NOT OVERWRITE YOUR “WP-CONTENT” FOLDER.

That’s actually a little incorrect. When upgrading manually, you should re-upload all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress by first deleting the old copies and then uploading the new.

Over-writing files/folders may not always work.

Also 90% or more of automatic upgrades work just fine. I upgraded about 12 sites without the slightest problem. The most common issues arise when people are using old incompatible themes and/or plugins.
