Dashboard is not working

  • Most aspects of Dashboard are working OK.

    But other key aspects are not. For instance:

    On the MENU control panel:
    along the left, when I click “link” to create a custom link with a URL, the dropdown does NOT open and display the field where I can enter my information. Yet, on the same MENU control page, if I select something in the menu and click — it DOES open and display the fields where I can edit the label, or remove the link, etc.

    Same with WIDGETS — It’s not opening and displaying the fields where I can enter information or edit information about a widget.

    I’ve tried different browsers. I’ve restarted my computer.

    What is causing this? My hands are somewhat tied in terms of working on this site!

    What should I do? Help! (and, thank you)

  • Is it a theme specific issue?, Could you try a different theme temporarily and see if you are able to get it to work the way you want?

    P.S.

    The issue is on any website I try to work on. Different sites, entirely different hosts and servers. Different plugins. None of the Dashboard functions (javascript, I’m guessing) work. I haven’t changed any of my browser settings. I use mostly Chrome and Firefox. I’m on a Mac. (my Mac has been acting up lately, freezing a lot — would this be related somehow??)

    I do think it is some kind of a javascript/jquery issue with your browsers. Could you try from a different computer to double check its an issue with the site and not the computer.

    Great idea. I just switched from Canvas (the theme I’m using) to TwentyFourteen – and same problem.

    I’ve noticed that some of the Dashboard buttons used to “pop out” more links when I hovered over them – such as hovering over “Appearance” would pop out a list of choices. This is not happening all of a sudden.

    Yet — some buttons STILL do pop out!? So, the problem isn’t across the board.

    I will go try on a different computer. But if it IS MY computer — what to do?

    OK — off to dig up another computer . . .

    I was hoping I could blame MY Mac — but the SAME strange problem on another computer, and it’s not a Mac.

    I’m unable to edit anything on the Widgets and Menu page because the fields do not pop open for me to type. However — some fields DO open, such as within the actual menu itself. Those work, yet the ones in the left column, on the same page, do NOT.

    I can’t fathom what is going on!

    Hmmm — I just tried another WP site I’ve done using Thesis theme, different host, and it’s working beautifully.

    This helps. But my other sites used to work just fine. Then suddenly began acting up.

    I’ll keep checking.

    I’ve found the problem — a plugin. When deactivated — everything works like normal.

    When activated — the problem I described is there.

    Problem solved, but too bad — this was a GREAT plugin from Pootle Press.
