• Hi,

I clicked to update to the latest 4.1 version of WordPress last night. It said it installed. Today, I got to my admin login page, and logged in. It logs me in and sends me to my home dashboard page, but nothing actually loads on the page. My tab loads and reads Dashboard < elle rose photo, and my favicon loads next to it. There is not spinning wheel to suggest it is still loading. But the page itself is blank.

Very troublesome…. Any help/advice/fixes would be greatly appreciated!

  • Okay, so your site is showing a custom theme – the file path shows this:

    https://site.ellerosephoto.com/wp-content/themes/elleroseby16J/style.css

But the CSS file shows this:

    /*
    Theme Name: SuperSimple
    Theme URI: https://tidythemes.com/supersimple/
Description: A super simple and clean professional theme. Learn how to customize it: tidythemes.com/want-to-learn-css
    Author: TidyThemes
    Author URI: https://tidythemes.com/
    Version: 3.2

So what themes are inside your themes folder – you need to rename the one that is active – this folder elleroseby16J

But make sure there is a default theme in there – i.e. twentyfourteen or another twenty theme.

    Okay, renamed

    elleroseby16J to elleroseby16JRENAME

    Plugins are on HOLD still

Is there a twentyfourteen theme folder in the themes folder?

Looks like you should go ahead and reinstall WP – so you’ll need to download a new copy from here. Then replace all files and folders EXCEPT wp-config.php file and the wp-content folder with new copies from the download. It’s also best to delete the old ones before uploading the new ones so you’re sure they got replaced.

Yes there is a twentyfourteen theme folder there.

With reinstalling, am I risking losing anything on my site? Also, I don’t really follow what I am deleting… Sorry, this is all rather above my head for backend stuff – Trying to follow copying and pasting it all over, but not certain items and deleting other items. Do I change the Plugins and Theme renames back to normal then?

Your content in is your database and in the wp-content folder – so just be sure not to overwrite or delete that folder.

When you download WP and unzip it, you’ll see there are a bunch of files and folders in there – you need to upload all of those EXCEPT the wp-content folder. But find and delete the OLD versions of those same files and folders on the server before uploading the new ones. But do not delete or overwrite the wp-config.php file on your server either.

Okay, few questions. I have the wp-admin, wp-content, wp-includes folders listed under my Public Html Folder, in my blog + my site folders. Do I delete from both? Or just one?

And should I be renaming the Plugins folders in each of those as well?

Sounds like you have several installations of WordPress.

You shouldn’t need to modify the ones that are not currently active on your site you linked to above.
