• In the past two days, I’ve noticed that the incoming links and news updates have stopped appearing in my dashboard. And with Akismet, I’ve been getting the following error messages when I go into my configuration:

“The key you entered could not be verified because a connection to akismet.com could not be established. Please check your server configuration.”

“The key below was previously validated but a connection to akismet.com can not be established at this time. Please check your server configuration.”

I am with Bluehost, running ver. 2.3.3 and I haven’t changed any configurations with my server, so I’m really just wondering if any ideas as to what could be causing this. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Alex

  • I’ve experienced the same thing for the past couple days. I’m running an older version (2.0.5). Are there any connection strings that can be verified manually (i.e. via wget)?

And I bet you also don’t get the notifications when there’s a new WP and no notifications when a plugin becomes outdated? I have that very issue since I upgraded to 2.5, but I haven’t found an answer yet.

Fixed it. Had nothing to do with WP.

System was reloaded and resolvers weren’t listed in /etc/resolv.conf during initial Apache startup. Resolvers were added shortly thereafter but Apache hadn’t been restarted since. PHP and/or Apache must pull resolvers once at startup; Dashboard and Akismet both working fine now after Apache restart.

Right, I don’t have much of an idea what you’re talking about. Is this something that I can try too? Do you host your own website or can you restart Apache from the control panel or something?
