Database character set issue causing emojis to break

Unfortunately I can’t follow up on the topic from last year, as that is already closed, but I have the same problem.

After migrating pretty much all emoji’s were replaced with four “?”-characters, although the original and the new databases are set up with the same collation (the old latin1_swedish_ci).

Does Migrate Guru use a specific character set for the migration, that could cause this problem? And if so, is it possible to specify a certain character set?
