• I have gone through the whole WordPress installation process up to Step 5: Run and Install the Script. When I do this, this error message comes up:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql.mywritingroom.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

I have checked and double checked that I have the correct username, password and host name. I have even done the whole process again on another computer with the same error message coming up at step 5. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Check with your hosts. Sometimes the database credentials are not the same as the credentials for your host’s control panel.
