Database connection error

    I’m getting “error connecting to database” both when trying to connect to admin and when trying to go to site in my browser.
    config.php does not appear in any way corrupted and the site worked fine for 9 months until this morning – any ideas ?

    i have been getting these messages from within admin – service provider says it is because of maintenance – and now he says that any “e-mail notification scripts” might be a problem. Things are on hold as I wait for a response to “If I can’t get into WP I can’t turn them off !”

    usually when that happens it means the wp_options table has crashed in the database
    run a repair on it with host’s phpmyadmin

    Actually the webhost admitted he was at fault…

    this being said

    1. What does the wp-options table control ?
    2. How do you put it right

    I’m having to learn more than I want to know !
