• I have a blog that I’m having a bit of a problem with. Two days ago everything was fine. Yesterday I go to login to write a post and I get this message: Error establishing a database connection.

The database is still active in my MySQL and I even tried the repair function that was in Fantastico. It said the database was repaired but I still can’t get a connection.

What could the problem be? How can I correct this? I hope that someone can help me resolve this.

  • Out of curiosity, do you use a third party host for your site?

    Yes, I do.

I’ve had this problem before. I changed host which solved it. If your host aren’t willing to help you with it, you may want to consider moving.

I’ve had a support ticket in since this happened on Thursday. There were other issues also at the time. They have since been fixed. This problem is the only one that I’m still having.

Yahoo hosts my sites and I’ve been having problems with them lately. Apparently they cannot support WordPress versions higher than 2.3. I cannot access my site right now and it keeps redirecting me to a “install WordPress” page and this came at me out of nowhere. When I ask Yahoo they just throw up their hands and say, you upgraded we can’t help you.

My first advice is back up your posts by exporting them. Also, make sure you save a copy of your theme file. This way, even if you have to create a new blog, you can keep your posts and theme. That’s what I had to do the first time I had your problem and it turned out to be easier than trying to fix the problem. Good luck.

I thought I’d pretty much do the same thing tomorrow. Download my WP files, delete my old database, remove old WP installation, create a new database, re-install WP, and then upload my old files with my posts, comments, etc., then backup my new database so if this happens again I could just upload the backup which should correct the problem. At least that’s what I understood from my research in this forum.

I think doing the above would help solve my problem. Again, this is arrived at from the research I’ve done here in the forum.

I have to do something myself. I’m not getting any help from my web hosts support. I haven’t heard back from them since my initial support ticket. That was two days ago and I still have my problem.
