• I’m working on a project for a freelance client. The site itself is hosted with a marketing company and they want me to make edits outside of them. I do not have (and will not get) access to the live site’s server or files.

Trying to get the site loaded on MAMP so I can make some edits. They have sent me the exported database and all WordPress files. I’ve set MAMP up with the correct settings in wp-config.php. I continue to get “Error establishing database connection.”

I think I’ve narrowed it down to either plugins or permalinks causing issues.

To check if it’s a plugin issue, do I just remove all of them and add them back in one by one to find the issue?

If it’s a permalinks issue, is there a way to manually fix that without being able to access the live site or manipulate the database export?

    Thanks in advance.

  • To disable plugins all at once, navigate to /wp-content/ folder and in that, you can see a folder named “plugins” , rename it to something else in order to disable all the plugins and then, you can able to login to your wordpress admin panel.
