Database error when choosing custom template

Hi,
Does anybody know why, if I paste my newsletter HTML-code into the theme.php file, copied from the xmas-2014 folder, and re-upload the file, a database error shows up by creating a new newsletter from my template (edited xmas-2014 theme.php file)?
Do I have to register the theme somewhere?
