Hi, I’m trying to transfer 2 sites over to Siteground using the Siteground Migrator.
I am receiving the following error:

“Transfer Failed Due To Database Error!
The most common reason for such failure is if you have a large table or database that cannot be dumped for the purposes of this migration. If that is the case you may not be able to use the auto-migrator. If you believe the problem is elsewhere, such as temporary MySQL connectivity issue, you may restart the transfer.”

On both sites I have deleted all unused themes & plugins. Compressed all images, and deleted all spam comments.I checked with MediaTemple (the current host), one site is 14.5MB, whereas the other is only 8MB. Size clearly isn’t the issue as 8MB isn’t large at all.
    Please advise the next step.

    Thanks!

    Hey @kblaney

There are two cases when you get this error.

    1. The first one is when your database is too big (which is not your case imo)
    2. The max_execution_time limit on your current host is too low.

When we export the database, we export each table encrypted in separate file, to reduce the execition time and there is a separate process for each table from the database.

The solution is to try to increase the execution time limit, if you have capabilities.

If your plan at SiteGround is GrowBig or GoGeek, you can request manual transfer and mu coleagues will migrate your site for free.

    Hi Stanimir,

I already had your colleagues transfer 1 site (which I think is my limit for free transfers).
I already tried increasing the max-execution-time-limit is set to 300, should it be higher?

Please, contact the support team of your other hosting company since they have access to their infrastructure and can actually make changes.

    Hi Hristo,
I would happily contact my current host provided I could advise them what needs changing.

The (imaginary) conversation would sound like this… ‘Hi, I am attempting to use a plug-in to transfer a site away from you. The plug-in is coming up with a database error, without saying what specifically needs to be fixed. I’ve already increased limits as suggested by plug-in techs. Please fix my unknown database error so the plug-in will work”.

I highly suspect they will in turn tell me it’s a problem with the plug-in and not their problem… Unless of course you could tell me what specifically I could ask them to change something in their infrastructure…?

Thank your your help! I’m hoping to not have to pay for multiple site transfers.
